Jim Carrey Opts for Artistic Value Over Popularity for His First NFT Purchase

Jim Carrey First NFT Purchase

Celebrity endorsements are nothing new in the world of fashion, but when it comes to NFTs or Non-Fungible Tokens there seems to be more than just support. Actor and comedian Jim Carrey has recently joined this space, purchasing his first NFT from one of the more underrated collections in the space.

Jim Carrey’s NFT venture is starting off with a very unique style of collecting. He went for the more unconventional NFTs created by photographer Ryan Koopmans and Swedish artist Alice Wexell instead of popular items like CryptoPunks or Bored Apes.

The NFT, entitled Devotion, is taken from the genesis project “The Wild Within.” The collection consists of a series of works by Koopmans and Wexell that are designed to bring new life into abandoned buildings from the Soviet era.

“Based on real-world physical spaces, an animated rebirth into a digital realm has been created,” wrote the website.

The town of Tskaltubo in Georgia was once a popular health destination for people from all over the Soviet Union. It’s famous because it had some of the best water and sanatoriums, which are what made this place so luxurious to visit. When things fell apart with Russia, everyone just abandoned their homes without looking back; letting them decay into ruins over time.

Koopmans, who had been exploring the ruins for years with his camera in hand, finally collaborated with Alice Wexell to bring life back into these empty spaces. Together they revitalized the empty spaces and turned them into works of art.

Jim Carrey was so taken with the artwork that he bought it for its artistic values and how beautifully they captured nature. He also noticed how this piece continued to revitalize, just like everything in life.

“This one stops me. James Joyce said that’s a good thing,” he tweeted. “Thank you [Ryan Koopmans] for gently capturing nature’s exquisite and relentless reinvention. BTW you’re my first NFT.”

The actor bought the NFT piece through the MoonPay service on SuperRare NFT marketplace so he wouldn’t go through the hassle of purchasing ETH. Devotion sold for 20 ETH ($39,500 at time).

Jim Carrey’s love for art has spanned throughout the decades outside of his acting career. As an artist, he creates expressive and emotive works that hold many exhibits worldwide through the years. His genuine interest in art led him to buy Devotion.
